Florence is a very romantic city in which
to spend your honeymoon or come to visit for a romantic weekend.
Intimate restaurants, candlelit dinners and
moonlight walks along the old cobbled streets are enjoyed
as much today as they were a thousand years ago.
It wasn't just by chance that E M Forster
wrote his amorous tale A Room with a View whilst in Florence.
The city is largely unchanged since that Novel was written
and is still as romantic a city as can be found anywhere in
Europe and perhaps the world.
If you are looking for an idyllic romantic
hotel from which to enjoy the best nightlife in Florence then
the Hotel San Giorgio and Olimpic is the
hotel for you.

Restaurants - Why not try the excellent local
tuscan dishes like the 2 inch thick T-Bone Florentine Steak,
Crostini Toscani (toast with hot liver pate) and Ribollita
(thick tuscan bean soup). We suggest that on at least one
of the evenings you try the ancient Buca di San Giovanni which
is arguably the most romantic restaurant in Florence. Owned
by a Calabrian family the food is exquisite to taste and beautifully
presented. The service is impeccable however, what really
makes this restaurant so romantic is its' ambience. The restaurant
is a series of caverns located directly underneath the Duomo.
The ceilings are supported by huge wooden beams which are
hundreds of years old... dont't worry if you are claustrophobic
as in Summertime you can dine outside in the courtyard.

Nightclubs and Pubs. There are some
superb nightclubs in Florence and some great pubs offering
some great nightlife in Florence. Near the Raffaello there
are not too many pubs and instead you have to go to the River
where you can find Stonehenge (near Piazza Santa Croce) this
pub is open from 11 p.m. until 4.00 a.m. but closes during
the Summer. Another good pub is the Fiddlers Elbow in Piazza
Santa Maria Novella - this pub was the first Irish Pub in
Florence and is still considered the best by many of Florence's
Nightlife magazines and periodicals. Guinness and good craic
combine to produce a warm and romantic atmosphere and a great
place to go for a digestif after your romantic meal. The trendiest
nightlife and the best nightclub in town is the Universale
which is packed every Friday and Saturday night.

Cinemas and English Language Films
- A must see is the classic romantic film A Room
with a View which is based on E M Forsters novel by the same
title.
It is an accomplished and beautiful love
story, full of cutting but ultimately generous insights.
And there are unforgettable moments: the
first kiss between George and Lucy is as passionate and unexpected
on a Tuscan hillside covered with violets, is one of the finest
most romantic kisses in modern literature and film making.
You can see this film and other films in
their original langauge at the Astro Cinema near Santa Croce.
